AMARILLO, Texas – Fall weather is putting on a full Texas display across the Panhandle — warm, breezy days followed by crisp, chilly nights. The weekend ahead will feature bright sunshine and mild temperatures, but a sharp cool-down late Saturday may bring the season’s first touch of frost to some rural areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, highs will remain near the lower 80s Thursday and Friday, with south winds gusting up to 25 mph. Those winds could kick up dust on open roadways like U.S. 287 and I-40, so drivers should use caution, especially during midday travel.

By Saturday, winds shift out of the northwest, ushering in slightly cooler air and afternoon highs near 78°F. As clear skies persist, temperatures are expected to dip into the low 40s across much of the region — and some northwestern Panhandle areas may even see readings near the upper 30s. Gardeners and homeowners in low-lying areas should be alert to the potential for light frost late Saturday into early Sunday.

Sunday remains sunny but cooler, with a high near 73°F. The start of next week looks ideal — abundant sunshine and highs in the low 80s make for perfect pumpkin patch weather and fall decorating conditions.

Take advantage of this stretch of calm, clear skies — the next cold front may bring more dramatic changes before Halloween week.
