AMARILLO, Texas – Dense morning fog and patchy drizzle are creating slow starts across the Texas Panhandle Tuesday, but clearer, drier weather is on the way by midweek. Low visibility along I-40 and Loop 335 may cause minor travel delays early today before the clouds lift and sunshine returns this afternoon. Temperatures will climb toward 80°F by midweek as drier air settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a weak disturbance is producing isolated showers and mist early Tuesday, followed by gradual clearing from west to east. Winds from the south will increase to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, helping to break up the fog and usher in warmer, clearer conditions. By Wednesday, high pressure builds over the Panhandle, bringing widespread sunshine, light winds, and highs near 81°F.

The dry pattern continues through the end of the week, delivering ideal fall conditions for outdoor activities and farm operations. Breezy south winds Thursday may briefly elevate fire danger in the western counties, but relative humidity will remain moderate. Drivers should remain cautious early today due to limited visibility and wet patches on local roads, especially on rural routes east of Amarillo.

By the weekend, cooler air slips back in behind a weak front, keeping highs in the mid-70s and lows in the 40s — classic early fall comfort for the High Plains.
