Amarillo, TX – Light showers and a few weak thunderstorms continue to move northeast across the western combined Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles this morning, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo. The activity is expected to continue through 10 AM, with rain gradually tapering after mid-morning.

Forecasters report typical rain rates near 0.5 inches per hour, though a few pockets of heavier rainfall have already been observed. Most storms remain sub-severe, but a few stronger cells may produce brief lightning.

The rain shield is advancing northeast from areas near Tucumcari, Dalhart, Vega, and Dimmitt toward Guymon, Perryton, and Canadian. Wet roads will likely slow the morning commute, and brief visibility reductions are possible under heavier showers.

By late morning, precipitation is expected to diminish, giving the Panhandles a break before more active weather returns later in the week.
