Amarillo, TX – The Texas Panhandle is gearing up for a significant heat wave as temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 90s and triple digits through the weekend and into early next week. Residents in areas such as the Canadian River Valley, Southeastern Texas Panhandle, and Palo Duro Canyon should prepare for afternoon highs ranging between 105°F and 108°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, while most of the region will remain dry, the Southeastern Texas Panhandle could see some relief in the form of isolated thunderstorms, with a 30% chance of storms developing this afternoon. This slight reprieve, however, will not significantly impact the sweltering temperatures expected across the region.

As we move into Friday, the possibility of isolated thunderstorms extends to much of the combined Panhandles. Despite this, the overall trend will remain hot and dry, with temperatures continuing to climb. The weekend outlook indicates continued extreme heat, with highs ranging from 98°F to 108°F across the region. Residents are urged to take precautions against the dangers of heat, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and checking on vulnerable individuals and pets.
