AMARILLO, Texas – Warm and breezy fall days across the Texas Panhandle are about to give way to a brisk, cooler weekend. After highs in the low 80s through Thursday, a sharp cooldown is on track by late Friday, bringing crisp air and lower humidity ideal for outdoor events and pumpkin patch visits.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, south winds will gust up to 30 mph Thursday before shifting west Friday as a weak front passes through the region. That boundary will drop highs from near 82°F Thursday to the upper 70s Friday and mid-70s Saturday. Lows will tumble into the 40s by the weekend, offering a true fall feel for early risers.

Drivers along I-40 and U.S. 287 should be prepared for crosswinds Thursday and Friday, especially in open stretches west of the city. The NWS notes a slight chance for isolated thunderstorms Thursday evening, though any rain should clear before sunrise Friday. Visibility will remain high with no widespread hazards expected.

Residents planning outdoor events or leaf-viewing trips can expect abundant sunshine through early next week. Still, meteorologists suggest securing lightweight decorations and checking irrigation systems as cooler nights return. Those attending football games or community festivals should pack light jackets for the evening chill.

Seasonal conditions continue into next week as daytime highs settle in the 70s and lows in the upper 40s.
