Amarillo, Texas – Rapid temperature swings and increasing rain chances are expected across the Texas Panhandle later this week, with precipitation returning Friday and continuing through much of Saturday before drier conditions arrive late in the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, temperatures will fluctuate through the week as cloud cover and multiple cold fronts move across the region. Wednesday highs are expected to range from 60 to 65 degrees, followed by a warmer Thursday with highs climbing into the 70s to near 80 degrees. Overnight lows during this period are forecast to range from the upper 30s to mid-40s.

Rain chances increase Friday as another weather system approaches. High temperatures Friday are expected to range from 55 to 65 degrees, with a 50 percent chance of rain developing during the day and into the evening hours. Rain coverage and intensity are forecast to increase Saturday, when rain chances rise to around 80 percent. Saturday highs are expected to remain cooler, generally between 50 and 60 degrees.

Travel impacts are most likely Friday night and Saturday, particularly along Interstate 40, U.S. 287, and surrounding roadways, where wet pavement and reduced visibility could develop during periods of steady rain. No winter weather impacts were indicated in the forecast, as temperatures are expected to remain above freezing.

Conditions are expected to improve Sunday, with rain ending and highs rebounding into the 60s to near 70 degrees. Skies are forecast to become partly cloudy as the final system exits the region.

The National Weather Service noted that the pattern reflects typical late-winter variability, with quick changes in temperature driven by passing fronts. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, especially those with weekend travel or outdoor plans.

The forecast may be particularly relevant for commuters, students, and workers traveling along major highways during peak Friday evening and Saturday hours.
