Amarillo, Texas – Another warm and calm day is expected across the Texas Panhandle today before cooler air moves in tonight, leading to a noticeably cooler Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, high temperatures Monday will climb into the mid-60s to around 70 degrees across much of the region. Cities along Interstate 40, including Amarillo, Vega, and Groom, are expected to reach the upper 60s to near 70, while areas farther north such as Boise City and Guymon warm into the low to mid-60s.
Winds will remain light, contributing to pleasant travel and outdoor conditions through the afternoon. No precipitation is expected during the day.
Tonight, a push of cooler air will move south across the Panhandles, setting the stage for a cooler Tuesday. High temperatures Tuesday are forecast to range from the upper 50s to low 60s, still mild but noticeably cooler than Monday.
Another reinforcing surge of cooler air arrives Tuesday night, when overnight lows are expected to fall into the upper 20s to mid-30s. The National Weather Service notes a very low chance that this colder air could produce brief mixed precipitation, though no accumulation or significant impacts are expected at this time.
By Wednesday, temperatures will trend cooler overall, with daytime highs mainly in the upper 40s to mid-50s. Overnight lows Wednesday night are forecast to dip into the mid-20s to low 30s, especially across northern and western portions of the Panhandles.
Major travel routes including I-40, US-287, US-87, and US-60 are expected to remain in good condition, with no winter travel hazards highlighted in the outlook.
Commuters, students, and outdoor workers may notice the temperature swings most clearly from warm afternoons to chilly mornings midweek. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and monitor forecasts for any updates regarding Tuesday night conditions.
