Amarillo, Texas – Very warm and dry conditions will persist across Amarillo through the remainder of the week, with the most significant impacts expected on Wednesday, when elevated fire weather conditions become a concern.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, highs on Tuesday will range from 69 to 83 degrees, followed by 73 to 82 degrees on Wednesday as breezy conditions develop. Overnight lows will remain mild, generally in the 40s to low 50s.

Wednesday will be the most affected day, as a combination of very warm temperatures, dry air, and gusty winds increases the potential for rapid fire spread. Elevated fire weather conditions are expected Wednesday and are likely to continue Thursday and Friday.

On Christmas Day (Thursday), highs are forecast between 74 and 82 degrees, with record high temperatures possible in parts of the Texas Panhandle, including Amarillo and Borger. Breezy conditions may persist, keeping fire danger elevated.

Conditions remain warm on Friday, with highs from 69 to 80 degrees, before slightly cooler but still above-normal temperatures arrive Saturday, topping out between 63 and 76 degrees.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly secure trailer chains, and use caution with any activities that could spark a fire, especially Wednesday through Friday.
