Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle can expect another warm and windy afternoon Wednesday, with highs reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo. Southerly winds will strengthen throughout the day, bringing gusts as high as 40 mph in some areas.

According to the NWS, the strongest gusts are forecast for the northwestern Panhandle, including Dalhart, Boise City, and Guymon. Most other locations, including Amarillo, Borger, and Pampa, could see winds between 25 and 35 mph through the late afternoon and evening.

Forecasters note that these breezy conditions will contribute to elevated fire danger and reduced travel visibility in open areas. Motorists driving high-profile vehicles on east–west highways, including U.S. 87 and I-40, are urged to use caution due to potential crosswinds.

Temperatures are expected to remain well above seasonal averages, with afternoon highs ranging from 79°F in Dalhart to 84°F in Wellington. Winds should gradually decrease overnight as a weak front approaches the area later this week.
