Amarillo, Texas – Cooler, winter-like temperatures are settling back into the Amarillo area today, but the chill will be short-lived as a steady warming trend develops heading into next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, high temperatures today will range from the low to upper 40s, with Amarillo near 48 to 49 degrees this afternoon. Light winds and dry conditions will keep the day feeling crisp but calm across the Texas Panhandle.

By Sunday, temperatures begin to rebound, with highs expected to reach between 50 and 60 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Winds will shift to the southwest at 5 to 10 mph, helping usher in milder air.

The warming trend strengthens early next week. On Monday, highs are forecast to climb into the mid-50s to mid-60s, with west winds increasing slightly to 5 to 15 mph. By Tuesday, the region could see the warmest temperatures of the period, with highs ranging from 60 to near 70 degrees, including upper 60s around Amarillo, as winds turn north at 5 to 15 mph.

Forecasters say the quick warm-up follows a brief return to cooler air, with no significant precipitation expected during the period. Overnight lows will also trend upward, reducing the risk of freezing conditions after tonight.

The National Weather Service notes that while today may feel like a return to winter, above-normal temperatures are expected to return quickly, especially during the afternoon hours early next week.

This forecast may be especially relevant for commuters, outdoor workers, and agricultural operations, as warming temperatures could impact daily planning after a cooler Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for any changes as temperatures continue to trend warmer across the Texas Panhandle.
