Amarillo, Texas – A strong cold front moving through the Texas Panhandle Sunday morning will bring rapidly falling temperatures and much colder conditions by Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the warmest temperatures Sunday will occur before sunrise, with temperatures expected to steadily fall throughout the day as colder air pushes into the region.
By Sunday afternoon, many areas across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles will see temperatures drop into the 30s and 40s, with wind chills falling into the 20s and 30s.
Forecasters say strong winds behind the front could make temperatures feel 10 to 15 degrees colder than actual air temperatures during the day.
There is also a 10–25% chance of light rain or snow Sunday, mainly across the northern Panhandles, including areas near Boise City, Guymon, and Beaver. Any precipitation that occurs is expected to produce only a trace to very light dusting.
Much colder air will settle in by Monday morning, when temperatures are forecast to drop into the teens across much of the region. Wind chills could fall as low as near 1 to 10 degrees in some northern communities.
The colder temperatures could impact early Monday commuters and outdoor workers, and residents are encouraged to bring pets indoors and protect sensitive plants.
