Amarillo, TX – Amarillo residents experienced record-breaking warmth Tuesday afternoon as temperatures soared to 89 degrees at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

The new high, recorded at 1:29 p.m., surpasses the city’s previous all-time November record of 88 degrees, set on November 7, 2023. The Weather Service confirmed the milestone in a social media post, noting the significance of such an unusually hot day for early November.

According to forecasters, a combination of strong southwest winds and dry air contributed to the spike in temperatures across the Texas Panhandle. Nearby areas also reported unseasonably warm conditions, though Amarillo’s official reading stood out as a new benchmark for the month.

Temperatures are expected to cool later in the week as a weak cold front approaches the region, bringing the potential for breezy conditions and a 20-degree temperature drop by Friday.

Meteorologists say these temperature swings are typical during transitional fall patterns, but breaking a monthly record underscores the ongoing trend of warmer autumns in the region.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours when temperatures remain unusually high for this time of year.
