Amarillo, Texas – Storms could bring heavy rain and lightning across the Texas Panhandle through midweek before a noticeable cooldown brings quieter conditions late in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storm chances are highest Sunday and Tuesday at 30%, with a smaller threat Monday and Wednesday. Highs will range from the mid-90s early in the week before slipping into the upper 80s by Thursday and Friday. Lows will also trend cooler, dipping into the upper 50s by late week.
Drivers across Amarillo, Canyon, and Dumas should prepare for brief downpours and reduced visibility during afternoon and evening storms. Outdoor plans could be interrupted by lightning, and residents are advised to move indoors quickly if skies turn threatening.
While rain chances taper off by Thursday, the pattern shift will leave behind comfortable afternoons and cool mornings heading into the weekend. The National Weather Service says this trend will keep temperatures slightly below normal for late August.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware through Wednesday and check for updated advisories, especially if traveling.
