Amarillo, Texas – North Texas will stay hot through the weekend with highs pushing into the 90s, but a sharp cool down and storm chances are set to move in by late Sunday into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Saturday’s highs will range from 85 to 95 degrees across the Panhandle with light east winds. Sunday will bring similar heat, topping out near 95 in Amarillo and stretching across Dalhart, Guymon, and Canadian, but scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late in the day.

Stronger storms could roll in Sunday night, bringing lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds. Drivers should watch for slick roads on I-40 and U.S. 287, especially during the Monday morning commute. Utility crews also warn that scattered outages are possible with any severe storms.

By Monday, temperatures will fall into the 70s with storms likely across Amarillo, Canyon, and Pampa, offering some much-needed relief from the heat. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, charge devices ahead of possible power interruptions, and avoid flooded roadways.
