Amarillo, Texas – A low but notable chance for snow early Saturday could create slick road conditions across the Texas Panhandle.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, snow chances have decreased slightly but remain at 10–20% for much of the region from early Saturday morning through late morning. While not all areas are expected to see accumulation, some locations could receive measurable snowfall, particularly east of Amarillo.

Forecasters say snowfall totals are expected to remain below one inch across most of the Panhandles, though eastern areas could see up to one inch if conditions align. The greatest likelihood for snow is expected between 2 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday, with the earliest flakes possible shortly after midnight.

The primary concern is hazardous travel, as even light snowfall could lead to slick or icy roadways, especially on bridges, overpasses, and less-traveled routes. Drivers heading out early Saturday morning are urged to use caution and allow extra travel time.

Snow chances are lowest west of Amarillo, with probabilities increasing farther east toward Wheeler, Perryton, and surrounding communities. The National Weather Service emphasized that not everyone will see snow, but impacts could still be felt due to timing and road conditions.

The update is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, overnight workers, and students with Saturday activities, as travel conditions could change quickly during the morning hours.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official forecasts and updates as timing and snowfall amounts may still shift.
