Amarillo, TX – After a mild and breezy Monday across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, a strong cold front will sweep through the region tonight, bringing gusty northwest winds and a drop in temperatures, according to the National Weather Service Amarillo.

Afternoon highs will climb into the upper 70s to near 80°F for most areas, while the northwestern Panhandle will stay cooler, topping out in the low to mid-60s.

By tonight, the approaching front will deliver strong wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph, particularly across the western and central Panhandles, including Dalhart, Dumas, and Vega. Winds will shift northwest behind the front, ushering in much cooler air for Tuesday.

Forecasters note that while no severe weather is expected, the gusty winds could create difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles and lead to localized blowing dust in open areas.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the 40s overnight, with cooler highs Tuesday as the front settles southward.
