Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle should prepare for a noticeable cool-down next week as a low pressure system develops over the region. According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the system is expected to influence local temperatures beginning Tuesday, September 23, and lasting through Thursday.

Forecasters outlined two possible scenarios. The more likely outcome, with a 70–90% chance, involves a stronger low that stalls east of Amarillo. If this occurs, cooler daytime highs in the 70s to low 80s could linger for several days. This would bring the most relief to the Panhandle, where conditions are expected to stay cooler.

The less likely scenario, with only a 10–30% chance, involves a weaker low pressure system that quickly moves across the central U.S. This would still result in slightly cooler highs, but the effect would likely last only a day or two.

Meteorologists noted that rain chances remain uncertain, but either scenario will bring cooler weather compared to recent weeks. “Just how long the temperatures remain cool, how cool highs may be, and any chances for rain remain uncertain at this time,” the National Weather Service stated.

Residents should monitor forecasts closely for updates as the system approaches. Cooler weather could provide a temporary break from the heat, especially for those in the Texas Panhandle and surrounding areas.
