Alsip, IL – The Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library was temporarily closed on Friday due to the discovery of a suspicious object. The Alsip Police Department, acting out of an abundance of caution, called in the Cook County Bomb Squad to inspect the object.
According to the Alsip Police Department, the library, located at 11960 S Pulaski Road, was closed to the public during the investigation, and a perimeter was established to ensure community safety. The investigation prompted officials to advise residents to avoid the area while the bomb squad conducted its inspection.
The bomb squad’s thorough examination concluded that the object posed no threat. “All Clear! Safe to return to the area!” the Alsip Police Department announced a short time later in an update. The library has since reopened to the public, and normal operations have resumed.
