Black River Falls, WI – A 56-year-old Alma Center man was arrested Wednesday evening after deputies say he was involved in a crash and fled a local business while intoxicated, marking his 11th offense for operating while intoxicated (OWI).
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 6:54 p.m. on September 17 after receiving reports of an intoxicated patron causing damage at a business in the Village of Alma Center. The suspect allegedly left the scene at high speed.
Deputies later located a vehicle matching the description with front-end damage and stopped the driver after a traffic violation. Authorities identified him as Charles Spangler, 56, of Alma Center. Deputies said he showed signs of impairment and refused sobriety testing.
During a search of Spangler’s vehicle, a firearm was allegedly found. Investigators also connected his vehicle to a separate crash scene located nearby.
Spangler was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges including 11th offense OWI, possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering with an ignition interlock device, operating after revocation, and threats to law enforcement.
At the time of his arrest, deputies said Spangler was already on probation and parole for felony OWI and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
All charges remain allegations, and Spangler is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
