Fort Wayne, IN – A Monday morning shooting in northeast Fort Wayne left one person in critical condition and led to the arrest of a 75-year-old suspect, according to police.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:35 a.m. Monday to reports of a shooting near Laverne Avenue and Lake Avenue, just west of Coliseum Boulevard. When officers arrived, they located a victim in the 800 block of North Coliseum Boulevard suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Police said the victim was transported to a nearby trauma center and was listed in life-threatening condition as of Monday morning. No additional information about the victim’s identity or condition has been released.

The Fort Wayne Homicide Unit took over the investigation and identified a suspect shortly after the incident. Police said Richard Krueckberg, 75, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Allen County Jail.

Krueckberg has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, according to police. Court records were not immediately available Monday, and it is unclear whether he has retained legal representation. All charges are preliminary, and Krueckberg is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Investigators did not release information about a possible motive or whether the victim and suspect knew each other. The area around Laverne Avenue and Lake Avenue saw a police presence during the investigation, though no ongoing threat to the public was reported.

Police said the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
