Authorities said 30-year-old Shataiya Troutman became involved in a dispute when the infant’s father told her he could not take the child because of business inside the courthouse. According to police, Troutman allegedly threw the child to the ground, then struck the father in the head before fleeing the building and leaving in her vehicle.
Multiple deputies and City of Pittsburgh police officers responded. A Pittsburgh homicide detective obtained the suspect’s license plate, which was broadcast to area units. Law enforcement later spotted and pursued Troutman’s vehicle before the pursuit was called off. Officials said a sheriff’s lieutenant identified Troutman’s address, where deputies located her vehicle and took her into custody without further incident.
Troutman was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. She faces charges including endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault with a victim under age six, reckless endangerment, and two counts of simple assault.
