Pittsburgh, PA – Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced Tuesday that a man accused of hiding a stolen revolver in a KFC trash can earlier this year has been taken into custody.
According to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Stephon Smith was charged with two firearm offenses and one count of receiving stolen property. Police say the case dates back to May 2025, when Pittsburgh officers conducting a warrant patrol on Brownsville Road spotted Smith in a KFC parking lot allegedly carrying a weapon in his sweatpants.
When Smith noticed police, he quickly entered the restaurant and went into the restroom. Officers later found a black-and-silver .357 revolver hidden under trash can paper—confirmed to be stolen. Smith left the scene before officers could make an arrest.
Detectives later developed information placing Smith inside a suspected drug house on Westmont Avenue in Carrick. On Tuesday morning, authorities executed a raid, arresting Smith along with five others who reportedly had active bench warrants from Allegheny, Butler, and Washington counties.
All six suspects were transported to the Allegheny County Jail, officials said.
