PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A bright and mild Sunday gives way to changing skies across western Pennsylvania as a fall cold front targets the region by Tuesday. After a weekend of sunshine and near-record warmth, rain chances are climbing fast — signaling an early-October pattern shift that could dampen commutes and outdoor plans across Allegheny County.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, highs will soar into the mid-80s Monday before showers and a few thunderstorms develop late Tuesday. Drivers on I-79 and I-376 should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during the Tuesday evening rush. Rainfall totals could reach a quarter inch in some areas before cooler, drier air filters in midweek.

Winds from the southwest will keep conditions warm through Tuesday, but by Wednesday, highs will fall back into the upper 60s. Skies will clear again by Thursday, restoring ideal weather for fall leaf viewing, pumpkin patch visits, and Halloween decorating plans.

The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor decorations, clear storm drains, and stay alert for updated rain outlooks. Those traveling early Tuesday should plan extra time for school drop-offs and morning traffic delays.

By late week, temperatures will moderate near normal — comfortable for outdoor fall events but signaling that a sharper October chill isn’t far behind.
