Munising, MI – A Blizzard Warning has been issued for Alger County beginning 3 p.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m. Thursday, as a powerful winter storm moves across the Upper Peninsula just ahead of Thanksgiving.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, snow totals are expected to range from 7 to 15 inches, with the heaviest accumulations inland and lighter amounts closer to the Lake Superior shoreline. Winds could gust up to 50 mph, creating whiteout conditions and dangerous travel across the region.

Forecasters warn that the worst conditions are likely Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, affecting both the evening commute and Thanksgiving Day travel plans. Visibility will be sharply reduced, and blowing snow could cause temporary road closures and power outages as wind gusts bring down tree branches.

Officials advise residents to avoid nonessential travel and to prepare for possible emergency situations. Motorists who must drive are urged to keep a winter survival kit in their vehicles and remain with their car if stranded.

Conditions are expected to slowly improve late Thursday night as snow tapers and winds diminish.
