Albuquerque, N.M. – New Mexico’s stretch of hot afternoons will be tempered by the risk of evening thunderstorms this week, with temperatures in Albuquerque climbing into the mid-90s by midweek. Drivers and residents should expect the strongest storm chances Tuesday and Friday nights, with brief downpours and gusty winds possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, highs will push near 93 degrees Tuesday before storms build in the evening. A 40 percent chance of thunderstorms is expected Tuesday night, with southeasterly winds shifting northerly at 5 to 10 mph. Another round of showers could develop Friday evening, bringing similar hazards.

Wednesday and Thursday will stay mostly sunny with highs around 94 to 95, offering some respite from storm activity, though a slight chance of rain returns Thursday night. Spotty storms continue to be a concern into the weekend, particularly Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items that could be blown around in sudden gusts and to plan evening travel with caution in case of heavy rainfall or lightning.

More storm chances are likely into early next week, keeping evenings unsettled despite the daytime heat.
