Albuquerque, NM – A sharp change in weather is underway across New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle as the National Weather Service in Albuquerque issues a Freeze Watch for late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, alongside a Wind Advisory for parts of eastern New Mexico early Tuesday.

The Freeze Watch covers a large area, including the Albuquerque and Santa Fe metro areas, the Middle Rio Grande Valley, and counties such as Guadalupe, Quay, De Baca, Lincoln, Chaves, Curry, and Roosevelt. Forecasters expect overnight lows between 24°F and 28°F, with some locations experiencing a hard freeze.

Meanwhile, Curry and Roosevelt counties are under a Wind Advisory from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, with north to northeast winds of 25–35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph. These strong winds could cause blowing debris and difficult travel for high-profile vehicles, especially along east–west highways.

The Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, including Amarillo, Dumas, and Guymon, are also under a Freeze Watch, with temperatures possibly dipping to 25°F.

Residents are urged to protect outdoor pipes, cover sensitive plants, and bring pets indoors. Winds are expected to ease by Tuesday afternoon, but cold air will linger into early Wednesday before gradual warming later in the week.
