Albuquerque, N.M. – Parts of northeast and east-central New Mexico face a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, isolated storms are most likely to develop across areas including Tucumcari, Las Vegas, and Clovis, moving eastward through the evening. While the threat level remains low, forecasters warn that any storm that forms could turn strong quickly, producing localized hazards.

Sunday’s temperatures will climb into the mid-to-upper 80s for much of the state, but little to no rain is expected elsewhere. Areas like Albuquerque, Farmington, and Roswell will remain hot and dry to end the weekend.

Residents in the eastern plains are urged to monitor alerts and delay outdoor activities until storms clear. Secure loose objects and stay indoors if lightning or hail is observed. Confidence remains moderate in storm development, but any intensification could bring quick impacts.

Looking ahead, a wetter pattern returns by midweek, especially for western and central New Mexico, with increasing rain chances from Wednesday through Friday.
