Albuquerque, NM – Rain showers and isolated thunderstorms will spread across northern and eastern New Mexico today, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. Forecasters say a few inches of snow are possible above 9,500 feet, especially around the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Taos, Eagle Nest, and Chama.

According to the NWS, the main window for storms will be from noon through midnight, with small hail and gusty winds possible in stronger cells. Light precipitation totals are expected for most areas, but heavier pockets of rain may develop in localized thunderstorms.

Daytime highs will range from the 50s and 60s in northern areas to the 70s and low 80s in southeastern New Mexico, with Roswell expected to reach near 83°F on Monday before cooler air arrives midweek.

Warmer and drier weather is forecast for Saturday through Monday, though breezy west winds are likely on Sunday. A backdoor cold front is expected to push into eastern New Mexico by Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures and a return to more seasonal conditions.

Residents in northern mountain communities should be prepared for slick roads at higher elevations tonight, while those in the plains should watch for isolated thunderstorms through the evening hours.
