Albuquerque, NM – A prolonged stretch of triple-digit temperatures will blanket Albuquerque and much of central New Mexico this week, pushing daily highs to 100°F or higher through at least Saturday and offering little overnight cooling.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, daytime highs will climb steadily from 98°F Sunday to 102°F by Thursday. Overnight lows will struggle to dip below 70°F, particularly from Tuesday night onward, reducing opportunities for meaningful cooling and increasing health risks for vulnerable residents.
Monday through Wednesday will bring clear skies and light winds, with highs of 99°F to 101°F. By Thursday, the mercury may top 102°F in parts of the metro, with Bernalillo County and surrounding areas under elevated fire weather and heat risk. Winds will remain light and variable, providing minimal relief.
Residents are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.), hydrate frequently, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Cooling centers may be opened if the extreme heat persists beyond Thursday.
Excessive heat may linger into next weekend. Additional advisories could be issued if overnight lows remain above 70°F for consecutive days.
