Albuquerque, New Mexico – Unseasonably warm temperatures and spotty rain showers are affecting much of New Mexico on Saturday.
According to the US National Weather Service in Albuquerque, temperatures across northern and central New Mexico are expected to climb 10 to 20 degrees above normal today. Highs are forecast to reach well into the 60s and 70s in several lower elevation communities, creating spring-like conditions for early February.
A weak upper-level disturbance is also moving across the state, bringing light rain showers mainly to the southern half of New Mexico, particularly along and south of Interstate 40. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain light, ranging from a few sprinkles to a few hundredths of an inch, with limited overall impact.
While prevailing winds will generally stay light, forecasters note that a few showers could produce brief, localized wind gusts, which may be noticeable for drivers on exposed roadways such as I-40, I-25, and U.S. 285 during the afternoon and early evening hours.
The above-normal warmth is expected to continue into next week, according to the National Weather Service. However, temperatures are forecast to cool later in the week as another system approaches. This pattern may bring increasing—but still relatively low—chances for rain and mountain snow statewide.
Meteorologists emphasize that while today’s rainfall is minimal, changing temperatures and precipitation patterns will be monitored closely for impacts to travel, especially in higher elevations where snow chances may return later.
This weather pattern may be of particular interest to commuters, outdoor workers, and students, as the warm conditions could affect road surfaces, outdoor activities, and daily planning.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official National Weather Service forecasts as conditions evolve over the coming days.
