Albuquerque, NM – A wet and active weather pattern will continue across New Mexico this week as remnants of Hurricane Priscilla move northward, bringing widespread rainfall and possible flooding through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, precipitation will begin spreading across much of the state Wednesday, with the heaviest rain expected Thursday through the weekend. Western and central areas, including Gallup, Grants, and Albuquerque, could see 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated higher totals up to 3 inches in northwestern regions.
Forecasters warn of a 5–14% chance of flash flooding, especially in areas prone to runoff or near normally dry washes. Muddy or impassable dirt roads and elevated stream flows are possible, particularly where storms repeat over the same locations.
Tropical moisture from Hurricane Priscilla’s remnants will enhance rainfall rates late in the week, maintaining high humidity and increasing the potential for localized flooding. The weather service urges residents to monitor forecasts and remember: “When thunder roars, go indoors! Turn around, don’t drown.”
