Albuquerque, NM – A weeklong crime suppression operation in Albuquerque’s International District led to dozens of arrests, multiple vehicle recoveries, and drug seizures, according to the New Mexico State Police.

The coordinated effort, which ran from Sept. 22 through Sept. 28, was conducted with the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Probation and Parole, and the Albuquerque Police Department. Authorities reported 51 felony arrests, 7 misdemeanor arrests, recovery of 8 stolen vehicles, and the seizure of 3 firearms along with narcotics. Officials noted that 50 of the individuals taken into custody were identified as repeat offenders.

On Sept. 22, officers attempted to stop a silver Acura near San Pablo Street and Dixon Road. Police said the driver, Cassandra Lucero, 25, allegedly fled and hid in an apartment before surrendering. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle, and Lucero was charged with multiple offenses, including breaking and entering and possession of a firearm by a felon.

That same day, NMSP’s Auto Theft Suppression Unit located a stolen brown Hyundai near Florida Street and Phoenix Avenue. Agents reported that Daniel Chaffin, 47, allegedly attempted to hide methamphetamine before being arrested. Chaffin, who was already on probation, faces charges including possession of a controlled substance and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

New Mexico State Police Chief Troy Weisler said the crackdown highlights the agency’s focus on proactive patrols and partnerships to reduce violent crime in Albuquerque neighborhoods.
