ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — Central New Mexico is experiencing its coldest daytime temperatures since early December as a winter system impacts parts of the state Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque.

High temperatures in Albuquerque are expected to reach only the mid-40s, with colder conditions across higher elevations and southeastern areas where snow is falling. Forecasters say today will be the coldest day of the week for much of northern and central New Mexico, with temperatures running well below average.

While Albuquerque itself is expected to remain mostly dry, winter storm conditions are ongoing across south-central and southeast New Mexico, including areas near Ruidoso, Roswell, Cloudcroft, and Carlsbad. Snowfall totals of 2 to 7 inches are expected in many locations, with up to 3 to 8 inches possible in the Sacramento Mountains. Snow-packed and icy roads may impact travel through this evening.

Looking ahead, temperatures across Albuquerque will steadily rebound after today, climbing into the 50s by Tuesday and reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees by midweek. Forecast data shows temperatures returning to above-average levels area-wide by Wednesday and Thursday.

Rain and mountain snow chances will return briefly around New Year’s Day, particularly across western and central New Mexico, before drier weather settles back in. Any precipitation around Albuquerque during this period is expected to be light.

Residents traveling south or east are urged to monitor road conditions closely, especially through mountain passes. Drivers should allow extra time and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
