Albuquerque, NM – A stretch of pleasant fall weather continues for New Mexico, but gusty winds are expected to develop across the eastern plains Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque.
Forecasters say southwest winds will increase Sunday afternoon across eastern parts of the state, turning westerly Monday as a trough moves through. Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible near Clines Corners, Las Vegas, and Tucumcari, creating hazardous crosswinds along north-to-south highways, including U.S. 285 and U.S. 84.
Temperatures will remain above normal through midweek, with highs in the 70s to low 80s across much of central and southern New Mexico, and cooler readings in the 60s for the north. Areas such as Roswell and Clovis could reach the low 80s Monday before slightly cooler air arrives later in the week.
A brief window for isolated showers will return to western and north-central New Mexico from Wednesday into early Thursday, but otherwise, the state will stay mostly dry with plenty of sunshine.
The National Weather Service encourages drivers of high-profile vehicles to use caution during peak wind periods and to secure outdoor items ahead of Monday’s gusty conditions.
