Albany, New York – Drivers across the Capital Region are facing an unsettled stretch of winter weather this week, starting Monday with passing snow showers that could briefly reduce visibility and create slick road conditions around Albany. While snowfall is expected to be light, quick-hitting squalls may catch commuters off guard during peak travel times.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a series of fast-moving clipper systems and lake-effect snow showers will keep daily chances for snow in the forecast through the week. Temperatures remain seasonably cold, with highs generally staying below freezing and overnight lows dipping into the single digits and teens, increasing the risk of icy patches on untreated roads.

Major routes including I-87, I-90, and Route 9 are most vulnerable during early morning and evening hours when temperatures are coldest. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down during snow showers, watch for sudden drops in visibility, and allow extra stopping distance. Even minor snow accumulations can lead to hazardous travel when combined with cold pavement.

Cold, wintry conditions continue through Friday, with no prolonged warm-up expected. Additional advisories may be issued if snow showers become more persistent or squalls intensify.
