Albany, NY – Flags snap along I-87 this Halloween morning as strong westerly winds sweep across eastern New York, bending trees and rattling porch railings. The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Wind Advisory in effect through 8 a.m. Saturday, warning of gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph across the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and parts of western Massachusetts and southern Vermont.

Forecasters say sustained winds between 18 and 25 mph could make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles along open stretches of the New York Thruway and Route 7. Residents should secure trash bins, yard items, and Halloween decorations before midday gusts peak. A few scattered power outages or downed limbs are possible in rural areas.

Rain showers taper through the afternoon as skies begin to clear. Temperatures hold near 54°F, then drop into the low 40s tonight as the wind slowly weakens. By Saturday, calmer weather returns with partly sunny skies and highs around 51°F — a crisp but pleasant start to November.

Sunday brings lighter breezes and sunshine, with highs near 52°F and cool, comfortable air ideal for late fall errands or leaf cleanup. Looking ahead, early next week turns milder, but models hint at another front midweek that could bring rain — and possibly the first lake-effect snowflakes in far northern New York by Thursday.

With Daylight Saving Time ending at 2 a.m. Sunday, residents can enjoy an extra hour of rest as New York shifts from Halloween’s bluster to November’s brisk calm.
