Albany, New York – Above-normal temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend, with highs reaching the low to mid-40s and periods of rain impacting the Capital Region.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, mild conditions will linger through Saturday and Sunday before a gradual cooling trend begins early next week. High temperatures in Albany are forecast to range from about 40 to 45 degrees through the weekend, well above average for early January.

Rain is expected to be the primary form of precipitation Friday into Saturday. By Sunday, a transition to a wintry mix or snow is possible at times, especially as temperatures begin to cool. This combination of mild temperatures and rainfall is expected to accelerate snowmelt across the region.

Forecasters note that melting snow and rainfall may thin existing snowpack, but the added moisture will help replenish rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. While widespread flooding is not currently expected, residents in low-lying or poor-drainage areas should continue to monitor conditions.

Colder air is expected to return early next week, bringing temperatures back closer to seasonal norms.
