Albany, N.Y. – Storms are expected to sweep across the Capital Region Saturday, with showers and thunderstorms likely by the afternoon. Roads in Albany, Troy, and Schenectady could see standing water as rainfall totals approach a half inch in spots, making for a messy start to the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the strongest rain chances arrive between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday before tapering off overnight. Thunder and brief downpours could slow drivers on Interstate 87, I-90, and Route 9 during the evening commute. Winds will be light, but visibility may be reduced during heavier cells.
Conditions improve quickly Sunday with sunshine and highs in the low 70s. Skies stay mostly clear through midweek, giving the region a stretch of calm weather after Saturday’s soaking. Residents should prepare for slick roads Saturday evening, then enjoy much drier travel by Sunday.
The National Weather Service notes this unsettled pattern clears fully by Monday, with no additional rain expected through at least Thursday.
