ALBANY, N.Y. – Morning clouds are lifting across eastern New York, setting up a cool but brighter afternoon with breezy northwest winds and highs mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s. A crisp, classic fall day is unfolding from the Hudson Valley to the Adirondacks.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, early clouds and patchy fog are clearing from west to east, giving way to partial sunshine by midday. Temperatures will top out in the low 60s in valleys near Albany, Hudson, and Poughkeepsie, while the higher terrain of the Adirondacks and Berkshires holds in the upper 40s to low 50s.
A cool northwest breeze will pick up this afternoon, with occasional gusts near 20 mph adding a chill to the air, especially in open areas along the Mohawk and upper Hudson valleys. Tonight will turn chilly under clearing skies, with lows dipping into the upper 30s and lower 40s—cool enough for some patchy valley fog by dawn Thursday.
Thursday looks mostly sunny but seasonably cool, keeping with the mid-October trend of brisk mornings and mild afternoons. The NWS says a warming pattern will begin Friday, with highs returning to the 60s and continued dry weather through the weekend.
Residents heading out early should dress in layers and allow extra time for morning fog or damp roads.
