ALBANY, N.Y. – Frost glistens across quiet yards in the Capital Region this early Tuesday, a light veil of mist rising off the Hudson as dawn breaks crisp and clear. For now, it’s a calm and pleasant stretch — but a quick warm-up midweek will give way to rain and cooler air just in time for Halloween.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, Tuesday and Wednesday will remain mostly sunny with highs in the mid-50s to near 57°F and light winds. The calm will fade late Wednesday night as clouds thicken and a developing system pushes moisture north from the Mid-Atlantic. Rain becomes likely Thursday, with gusty east winds along I-90 and I-87 corridors potentially slowing travel during the evening commute.

By Thursday night, widespread showers could drop between half an inch and an inch of rain across Rensselaer, Albany, and Saratoga counties. While flooding is not expected, localized ponding on leaf-clogged drains may cause slick conditions for drivers.

Friday’s pattern turns cooler and unsettled, with lingering light rain or drizzle through midday before skies gradually clear — a relief for Halloween events Friday evening. Trick-or-treaters should bundle up for temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s under partly cloudy skies and a steady northwest breeze.

The weekend trends seasonable, with highs near 52°F and a few passing showers possible Sunday. To be fair, it’s a fitting transition — fall’s warmth finally giving way to November’s early chill.
