New York – A thin, glassy sheen coats roads and sidewalks early Monday as freezing rain settles quietly across the Capital Region and southern Adirondacks. Headlights reflect off slick pavement, and bridges freeze first as temperatures hover below 32 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Albany has an Ice Storm Warning in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for parts of Fulton, Montgomery, Hamilton, Warren, and northern Saratoga counties. Additional ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch are expected in higher terrain, with lighter glazing farther south.

Freezing rain continues to fall during the heart of the Monday morning commute. Roads, overpasses, and untreated sidewalks are becoming increasingly hazardous. Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially in areas near Glens Falls, Saratoga Springs, North Creek, Warrensburg, and Amsterdam.

In Montgomery County, a light to moderate band of precipitation moves in this morning. With surface temperatures remaining below freezing, freezing rain remains likely through mid-morning. Even small ice amounts can create major problems for drivers and pedestrians.

Power outages remain a concern in higher elevations, where ice loads add stress to trees and power lines. Crews are monitoring conditions closely as the system exits later this morning.

Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. If travel is unavoidable, carry emergency supplies including food, water, and a flashlight. Conditions are expected to improve gradually late morning as temperatures slowly rise above freezing.

Looking ahead, colder air returns tonight behind the system. Any moisture left on roads could refreeze, raising the risk of black ice into Tuesday morning. This sets the tone for a wintry final week of 2025 as New Year’s travel and early January 2026 plans ramp up across the Northeast.
