New York – Wet pavement and gusty winds are already sweeping across the Capital Region, setting up a messy stretch of weather that could quickly shift from rain to slick conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, steady showers continue through the day with temperatures near 50°F and south winds gusting up to 31 mph. Roads remain wet, but conditions begin to change late as colder air moves in.
Drivers should stay alert this afternoon, especially on I-87 and I-90. Gusty winds may push vehicles, and reduced visibility can develop in heavier showers.
By late evening, rain begins mixing with snow as temperatures fall toward 32°F. That transition raises concern for slushy buildup and patchy ice, especially on untreated surfaces. Even light accumulation can create hazardous travel before the early Monday commute.
Monday stays colder, with highs near 40°F and scattered rain and snow showers. Accumulation looks limited, but brief bursts could still reduce visibility. By Monday night, skies begin to clear and temperatures drop sharply to around 26°F.
That sets the stage for flash freezing. Any leftover moisture on roads and sidewalks could refreeze, creating black ice into early Tuesday morning.
Tuesday offers a break with sunshine and highs near 46°F. However, clouds return midweek, with rain chances increasing again by Wednesday night into Thursday.
Keep winter gear handy and plan extra travel time during changing conditions.
