Albany, New York – Cold conditions will persist across eastern New York and western New England tonight, with passing snow showers and flurries possible, particularly across higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, skies will remain mostly cloudy overnight, with occasional snow showers or flurries developing late, especially north and west of the Capital Region and across elevated terrain. While widespread accumulation is not expected, brief bursts of snow could lead to localized slick spots, mainly on untreated roads.

Overnight low temperatures are forecast to drop into the single digits and teens, with some colder pockets possible in the Adirondacks, Mohawk Valley, and southern Green Mountains. Forecasters note that cold pavement temperatures may allow even light snow to stick in spots.

Travel corridors that could be affected include Interstate 90, Interstate 87, Interstate 88, and connecting routes such as U.S. Route 7 and U.S. Route 20, particularly during the late-night and early-morning hours. Drivers may encounter rapidly changing conditions over short distances, especially in hillier areas.

The National Weather Service emphasized that snow showers will be intermittent and fast-moving, limiting overall impacts. However, reduced visibility may briefly occur during heavier flurries, especially near higher elevations north of Albany and east into western Massachusetts and Vermont.

Conditions improve slightly by Wednesday morning, though clouds are expected to linger. Temperatures will remain below seasonal averages, continuing a stretch of cold weather across the region.

Officials encourage motorists to use caution when traveling overnight, slow down on snow-covered roads, and allow extra stopping distance. Early-morning commuters should be prepared for isolated icy patches, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads.

The cold night may be especially noticeable for students, early-shift workers, and commuters traveling along I-90 and I-87 before sunrise.

This forecast is based on guidance issued Tuesday evening and will be updated if snow coverage becomes more widespread.
