Albany, NY – A cold front and upper-level disturbance are bringing wet weather to much of eastern New York and western New England today through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Albany.
Forecasters said showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms are likely across the region beginning Monday and continuing into Wednesday. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from a quarter inch to three-quarters of an inch, with localized areas potentially seeing up to 1 inch or more.
According to the NWS forecast map, higher totals are possible in areas including Albany, Poughkeepsie, Springfield, and Pittsfield, where rainfall between 0.5 and 1 inch is expected. Northern and western areas, such as Syracuse, Herkimer, and Old Forge, may see lighter amounts closer to 0.25 to 0.5 inches.
The weather service warned that the combination of steady rain and scattered storms could lead to slick roads and minor ponding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Commuters should allow extra travel time, especially during the Tuesday morning and evening rush periods.
Thunderstorm activity is expected to remain isolated, but brief downpours and gusty winds are possible. Forecasters said the unsettled weather pattern should move east by late Wednesday, with drier conditions returning afterward.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions.
