Albany, New York – Snow continues across parts of the Adirondacks and western Mohawk Valley today, while valley areas near I-87 are expected to rise above freezing this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, snow will persist through this evening in higher terrain areas, including the southern Green Mountains of Vermont and portions of the western Mohawk Valley. Meanwhile, mainly dry and breezy conditions are forecast for much of the Hudson Valley and Capital Region.

Temperature forecasts show afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid-30s across Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, with readings near 31 degrees in Herkimer and low to mid-30s in Glens Falls and Pittsfield. As temperatures edge above freezing in valley locations, road conditions may improve on primary highways including Interstate 87, Interstate 90, and U.S. Route 7.

However, higher elevations along NY-28 through the Adirondacks and VT-9 across southern Vermont may continue to see accumulating snow into the evening hours. Localized slick spots are possible where snowfall persists.

Breezy conditions are also expected, which may contribute to blowing snow in exposed areas.

Commuters traveling between valley cities and higher terrain, including students and regional delivery drivers, should monitor changing conditions through late afternoon and early evening.

Forecasters say most valley locations will remain above freezing by late afternoon, helping limit widespread icing concerns outside the mountains.
