Albany, New York – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday as light to moderate snowfall brings slippery travel across eastern New York and western New England.

According to the National Weather Service Albany, a fast-moving clipper system is producing widespread snow Wednesday morning, with the highest accumulations expected across the southwest Adirondacks and southern Green Mountains.

Snow totals are forecast to range from 1 to 2 inches in the Capital Region, including Albany, Saratoga Springs and Amsterdam. Areas such as Glens Falls could see 2 to 3 inches. Higher elevations near Old Forge and parts of the southwest Adirondacks may receive between 3 and 7 inches. Southern Vermont communities including Bennington and Manchester are expected to see 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.

Forecasters said a cold front trailing the system may trigger additional snow showers and isolated snow squalls north and west of Albany later this afternoon into early evening. Brief heavier bursts could reduce visibility and quickly coat roadways.

Primary travel routes including Interstate 87 (Northway), Interstate 90, US-7, NY-28 and VT-7 may experience snow-covered and slick conditions during the morning and evening commutes.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution, particularly on untreated secondary roads and elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

The advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after the system exits the region.

Commuters, students and early-shift workers should prepare for reduced visibility and snow-covered pavement during peak travel periods.
