Albany, NY – The long-duration winter storm impacting the Capital Region is entering its wind-down phase Monday, with light snow continuing this morning before ending later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible across the region, mainly during the morning hours. Forecasters said most areas should be finished with accumulating snow by this afternoon, as snowfall tapers to flurries or ends entirely.

While snowfall rates are lighter than earlier in the storm, road conditions may remain slick during the morning commute, particularly on untreated roads, side streets, and parking lots. Reduced traction may continue even after snow ends, as temperatures remain cold.

The National Weather Service urged residents to use caution while shoveling, pacing themselves and taking breaks to avoid injury. Officials also reminded drivers to fully clear snow from vehicle roofs, noting that blowing snow from cars can create dangerous visibility issues for other motorists.

As people return to work, school activities, and outdoor recreation later Monday, forecasters emphasized continued awareness around winter safety. Emergency rooms see thousands of injuries each year related to shoveling, sledding, and icy conditions.

Commuters, students, and workers heading out early should allow extra travel time and remain alert for changing road conditions as crews continue cleanup operations.

While this storm is ending, officials advised monitoring forecasts for future systems as winter weather remains active across eastern New York.
