Albany, NY – Residents across eastern New York are waking up to a chilly and blustery start to the week as temperatures settle in the 30s today, paired with strong westerly winds and scattered lake effect snow showers, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany. Forecasters say winds will gust over 25 mph at times, making conditions feel even colder and pushing wind chills into the 20s throughout the day.

According to the NWS, lake effect snow showers and flurries will primarily impact western areas and higher elevations across the region, including parts of the Adirondacks, Catskills, and hill towns west of the Capital Region. While accumulations are expected to remain light, brief reductions in visibility and slick spots are possible, especially on untreated or elevated roadways.

Tonight, conditions remain breezy and cold with lows dipping into the 20s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Winds will shift to the west-northwest overnight, with gusts still reaching up to 25 mph. Higher terrain communities may continue to see isolated flurries as moisture lingers behind the departing system.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring improvement as skies turn partly to mostly sunny. Highs are expected to climb into the mid-30s to mid-40s, and winds diminish noticeably by midweek. Despite the warming trend, mornings will remain cold, and lingering breezes may still create a slight chill early Tuesday.

Residents in Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga Springs, and surrounding counties should prepare for a wintry feel today and stay alert for brief bursts of snow in western and elevated areas.
