Albany, NY – A strong clipper system is bringing widespread accumulating snow across eastern New York and western New England today into tonight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Albany. Multiple Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through early Thursday morning.

The heaviest snowfall is expected across the southern Adirondacks, where totals could reach 6 to 12 inches. Lighter but still impactful snow of 2 to 6 inches is forecast for the upper Hudson Valley, western Mohawk Valley, and portions of Ulster County. Snow will mix with rain at times in lower valleys, limiting accumulation in some areas.

According to the NWS, snowfall rates may reach 1 to 2 inches per hour in higher elevations overnight, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions. Motorists traveling along Interstate 87, I-88, and I-90 should plan for slick roads and allow extra travel time through the morning commute.

Officials advise ensuring vehicles are winterized and equipped for snow travel. The NWS also reminds drivers to wear seatbelts, reduce speed, and stay off the road if conditions deteriorate.

The snow is expected to taper off Thursday morning as the system exits into New England, followed by colder, breezy conditions for much of upstate New York.
