New York’s Capital Region is waking up to a sharp 11-degree chill, with frost clinging to windshields and a pale sunrise reflecting off icy sidewalks. The air feels biting and still, but changes are already lining up for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, sunshine dominates today with highs near 40 degrees. Calm winds turn light southerly this afternoon, offering a brief late-winter spring tease. Roads stay dry, but refreeze is possible in shaded spots early.

Tonight drops to around 29 under partly cloudy skies. Saturday turns milder, with highs near 48 and mostly sunny conditions. Snowbanks shrink, and travel remains quiet through the daylight hours.

Clouds thicken Saturday night. A 30 percent chance of snow develops after midnight, with lows near 25. By Sunday, snow becomes likely before 1 p.m., with a 60 percent chance of precipitation and highs near 32 degrees. Even light accumulation could create slick stretches along I-87, I-90, and local roads.

Colder air rushes in Sunday night. Temperatures plunge to near 6 degrees by early Monday. Any melted snow may refreeze quickly, increasing the risk of icy patches for the Monday morning commute.

Monday stays mostly sunny but frigid, with highs near 24. Tuesday moderates to 36 with another chance of snow developing after 1 p.m.

Early March trends milder overall, with highs pushing into the 40s by midweek and signs of above-normal warmth building later next week.
